World Ocean Day June 2013 - 06.03.2013

This year to celebrate World Ocean Day, COSEE Island Earth participated along with other businesses, performers, marine science organizations, and the community for the second annual, Ocean FEST! This year’s festival took place on June 1st on the beach at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s North Shore. Ocean FEST served to remind the community about the significance of the ocean and ways to protect it for future generations. Among the festivities were multiple live musical performances, hula dancing, marine related documentaries, ocean fishing lessons, a family sand sculpture contest, and stand up paddle board lessons. COSEE Island Earths booth consisted of a marine science trivia game, updates on current marine science research and making wave tubes to learn about ocean acidification. The festival was also host to many other educational booths such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Hawaiian Monk Seal Response Team, COSEE Island Earth, and the Papahnaumokuakea Marine National Monument.
