seaHarmony Now Available Nationwide - 01.15.2014
COSEE Island Earth is pleased to announce the expansion of seaHarmony, an online collaboration tool that matches ocean science researchers, educators, managers, and traditional practitioners based on compatibility of interests and collaboration preferences. Previously only available in Hawaii, seaHarmony is a social networking site for ocean science professionals, allowing members to find potential collaborators, post announcements, ask questions and share resources about specific ocean science topics. Scientist seeking a community partner? Educator looking to invite a scientist to your classroom? Traditional practitioner searching for a research collaborator? Resource managers wanting to connect with community organizations? This site is for you! seaHarmony even allows you to find members within your own profession with similar collaboration interests. And now seaHarmony is available to ocean professionals throughout the U.S.
A primary goal of seaHarmony is to help ocean scientists interested in broadening the impacts of their research find potential collaborators in education, management, or community engagement. Members are only visible to other members who match their collaboration preferences, and initial contacts are mediated through the seaHarmony website, so contact information of members is protected. And we're happy to report that seaHarmony has already helped our members form successful collaborations.
seaHarmony is also a place to post specific project ideas or opportunities for collaboration, such as grant proposals, internships, workshops, or public events. You can check these out and post your own on the Opportunities page.
A third feature of the site is an open discussion forum for posting announcements, resources, questions, or comments about any of the over 30 ocean science topic areas listed on the site (and we are continuing to add more).
